Joyce Steele grew up in Ashland, Kentucky, a town which is located in the northeastern part of the state.

Joyce’s interest in art has been since early childhood and although she never had the opportunity to attend art school, she did take a home correspondence course through the mail in the late 60’s and other than a few weekend workshops, Joyce considers herself to be a “self taught artist,” giving All glory to our Creator, the one who gives us the ability to develop our God given talents.

Joyce became more serious with her devotion to painting in the early 80’s when she began teaching some art classes at various locations in her hometown. At that time, she was painting in oils and watercolors but decided to put the oils aside and devote her painting time to developing some skills in watercolor. Joyce exhibits her work at several art and craft festivals throughout the year. Her paintings have been purchased by many collectors in the U.S. and in Norway.  She has also had the honor of painting two large wall murals in her hometown churches. In July 2001, she had the honors of being featured as "Member of the Issue“ in the North Light Magazine.

Joyce also enjoys Calligraphy, and groups many of her prints with some Bible verses which correspond with the picture.

The artist strives to capture a “mood” in her paintings, and states, “if my work sparks an emotion in the viewer, then I feel that I have been successful“.
